Essay Contest Rules & Regulations

The Little Gipper Spirit What’s Your Passion? Contest Rules & Regulations

The Little Gipper Spirit What’s Your Passion? Essay  Contest (“Contest”) is sponsored by The Little Gipper Company, LLC (“LGC” or “The LGC”).  The following Contest Rules & Regulations (“Rules”) govern all aspects of the Contest.  If you have any questions, please direct them to info@littlegipper.com.  This Contest is void where prohibited by law.

1.       Eligibility & Entry Guidelines

The Contest begins November 1, 2013 and ends February 15, 2014.  Winners will be contacted in the spring of 2014.

Entrants must be of grade school age, in grades 1 through 8.  You do not have to be enrolled in a “traditional” academic institution.  Entrants that are home schooled are equally encouraged to enter.

Only one entry per person will be accepted; any subsequent entries by that same entrant will not be accepted.  Use of “fictitious” names are not allowed.

The Contest is open to sole authors and artists, but we also encourage two or more authors to jointly submit an essay and original work of art too!

No purchase is necessary to participate in this Contest.

All essays and original works of art must be submitted through the littlegipperspirit.com website on the Little Gipper Spirit “What’s Your Passion?” Essay Contest Entry Form (“Entry Form”).

2.      Essay Word Count, Art Submission & Format

There is no “minimum” word count for any essay, but there is a maximum of 500 words per essay.

We highly encourage all entrants to include with the submitted essay an original work of art to help augment, explain, or otherwise illustrate any points or ideas in the essay or that naturally and logically flow therefrom.  An original work of art can include (but is not limited to) a drawing, collage, sketch, or photograph taken by the entrant or entrants.

The essay and any submitted original works of art must be original to the entrant (or entrants if it is a joint work).  Although parents, guardians, siblings, friends, and/or teachers are encouraged to help the entrant (or entrants) with formulating ideas and editing the final essay, the essay and original work of art must be the work of the individual entrant or entrants.

Text that accompanies any original work of art submitted does not count against the 500 word limit.

3.      Official Entry Form

Each entrant must fill out the Entry Form, with the required acknowledgment of a parent/guardian. NO ENTRY FORM CAN BE SUBMITTED UNTIL A PARENT OR GUARDIAN REVIEWS THESE RULES AND ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THESE TERMS.

4.      Essay Review, Awards & Notification

Essays will be judged based on how well the entrants are able to express their passions and how they are using those passions to help make the world just a bit better place (or even a whole lot better place!).   We want to encourage all entrants to find their passion, get excited about it, and use it to help others and then tell us about it!

Winning essays will be published in a hardbound book that will then be sold in the University of Notre Dame Hammes Bookstore and through related channels.

5.      Rights Associated with Contest

Submission of the Entry Form constitutes permission for The LGC to use any entrant’s name, likeness, biographical information, information and materials contained in the Entry Form, photographs, and any statements or remarks made about the Contest in advertising and promotion associated with the Contest without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.

All essays and original works of art submitted to LGC (the “Submitted Materials”) become the sole and exclusive property of LGC.  Each entrant and his or her parent or legal guardian hereby expressly assigns all right, title, and interest in and to the Submitted Materials to LGC.  In the event that any applicable law requires certain formalities to be fulfilled to effectuate such grant of rights, each entrant and his or her parent or guardian agree to cooperate with LGC to achieve fulfillment of such formalities.

All entrants and their parents or legal guardians agree to abide by these Rules, and represent and warrant that the Submitted Materials are their original works of the entrant and that they do not infringe upon or violate the rights of any third party.  Entrants further agree that LGC has the right to edit, publish, promote, and otherwise use the Submitted Materials without permission, notice or compensation. No royalties will be paid at this or any time.

By submitting an Entry Form, each entrant and his or her parent or guardian agree to be bound by these  Rules. Each entrant and his or her parent or guardian agree to release and hold harmless LGC and its employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives, subsidiaries, parent companies, or other affiliated companies from any and all damages, losses, claims and liabilities arising out of participation in the Contest or resulting from acceptance or claiming of any prize hereunder.

LGC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, suspend or otherwise cancel the Contest at any time and is not responsible for any expenses incurred in connection with participation in the Contest.

6.      Privacy

Unless otherwise specified, any and all information connected in connection with this Contest will be used by Sponsor solely for the purpose of administering the Contest as set forth on the Entry Form and the Online Privacy Policy of The Little Gipper Company, LLC, which can be viewed here.
